Job Title: Coordinator of Refugee and Community Services

Reports to: Executive Committee

JOB SUMMARY

The Eritrean Community Association of Edmonton (ECAE) is seeking a coordinator for its refugee and community services in Edmonton. The Coordinator of Refugee and Community Services works with the Executive Committee and the other committees to provide services to members of the Eritrean community and sponsored refugees. Guided by the rules, policies and practices of the ECAE, the Coordinator of Refugee and Community Services is responsible for coordinating the refugee, volunteer, working
committees and related administrative tasks.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

The Coordinator of Refugee and Community Services is expected to orient new refugees support the Refugee Sponsorship Committee and other ECAE working committees, administer the database in collaboration with the Executive Committee members, coordinate the pick up of the newly arriving refugees at the EIA, follow up that co-sponsors are fulfilling their sponsorship responsibilities and supplemental services, and support the ECAE’s efforts in the following ways:

1. General Duties 

a) Recruit and manage volunteers to provide support to ECAE sponsored refugees. 
b) Network with outside partners to provide services and create opportunities for community members.
c) Maintain sponsorship case files and notes for each co-sponsor and sponsored refugees. 
d) Complete reporting requirements. 
e) Participate in ECAE Board meetings and collaboration with working committees. 

2. Identify community resources new refugees could access and benefit from.

a) Coordinate with ECAE SAH Representative for cases that will be arriving to complete pre-arrival needs; making sure co-sponsors are ready with housing, furniture startups, scheduling of preliminary appointments with Alberta Health Services, SIN numbers, banking;
b) Coordinate transportation for newly arrived ECAE sponsored refugees at the Edmonton International Airport.

3. Coordinate, in conjunction with the co-sponsors the access of the following core services for each refugee:

a) Orientation and resettlement information; 
b) Enrollment in ESL classes, orientation and employment information sessions; 
c) Record the disbursement of financial support from the co-sponsors to the refugees and prepare financial report forms; 
d) Follow-up with co-sponsors on newcomers medical assessment; e) Follow up enrollment in school or employment programs;

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Post secondary education in human sciences like: Social Work or equivalent experience in refugee related work and/or case management, 
  • Knowledge of the UN convention of refugees and the Canadian refugee program,
  • An interest in social justice and humanitarian issues,
  • Excellent reasoning ability, interpersonal skills and good judgment while representing the ECAE,
  • High professional and ethical standards, 
  • A minimum of Class 5 driver’s license and personal vehicle. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including spelling and grammar of the English language. 
  • Proficiency in other Eritrean languages is a plus, 
  • Basic mathematical computation skills, knowledge of bookkeeping and reporting is an asset,
  • Membership in the ECAE is a requierment.

COMPUTER LITERACY 

  • Fluency in using Microsoft Excel, Word and Publisher. 
  • Proficiency in use of email, including address groups, forwarding, file attachment, organizing computer files etc. 
  • Experience with data entry, speed and accuracy in service data entry.
  • Experience in any other computer application programs is a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Minimum physical effort to work in an office setting.

COMPENSATION: Reasonable and competitive hourly wage.
