Our Mission

Welcome to the web page of the Eritrean Community Association of Edmonton (ECAE). We aspire to provide a community-based service that may be of great value to you and your family.

The ECAE  is a not-for-profit community organization inclusive of all Eritreans regardless of their political affiliation, faith, and cultural background.

Edmonton is currently home to one of the largest Eritrean communities in Canada.  Settling      in  a new environment where one is exposed to new cultures in a foreign environment has its            challenges.  Similar to the challenges faced by those cultural groups that came before it from different parts of the world and who have been successful in integrating within the multicultural  Canadian identity, the Eritrean community here in Edmonton is facing its many challenges.. Another challenge faced by first generation Eritrean immigrants and refugees is in successfully integrating into Canadian multicultural fabric.

The ECAE was created by dedicated individuals in 1992, in order to overcome these challenges related to settlement and adaptation faced by Eritrean immigrants. Since its           inception, the ECAE has endeavored to act as a conduit to tackle the challenges noted above by creating avenues for collaboration and programs for success.

“Don’t underestimate the power of your vision to change the world. Whether that world is your office, your community, an industry or a global movement, you need to have a core belief that what you contribute can fundamentally change the paradigm or way of thinking about problems.”
